State of the Project & Roadmap to v1.0
We've had some difficult conversations as a team about how we work together, what we're building, and who it's really for. This roadmap is the result of that honesty. It's not a marketing page — it's a living document of where VyManager stands today and the concrete steps we're taking to reach a stable, trustworthy v1.0.
Before we build on top, the foundation needs to be solid — and so did the team. This phase came out of difficult conversations about how we work together.
- New project images and branding
- Clearer setup instructions and documentation
- Optimized install flow — host VyManager without a router connected
- Branch strategy: main stable / beta confident / testing experimental
- Clean up the git history
Closing the gaps. If your protocol or interface type isn't supported, that's a blocker for v1.0.
- Routing: PIMv6/MLD, RIP/RIPng, RPKI, Segment Routing, Traffic Engineering
- Interfaces: OpenVPN, PPPoE, Pseudo-Ethernet, SSTP, veth, VPP, VTI/XFRM, WiFi/WLAN, WWAN
- All following Router → Builder → Mapper with v1.4/v1.5 mapper pairs
Taking VyManager from a single-team tool to something that works for MSPs, enterprises, and consultancies.
- Org → Sites → Instances hierarchy
- Users belong to multiple orgs with roles
- Per-instance RBAC stays as-is scoped within org
- Single-team deployments never see the org layer
- Existing deployments migrate transparently
A network engineer checking a dashboard from a phone in a server room — that's a real scenario. We're building for it.
- Sidebar: slide-out drawer on mobile / collapsible on tablet / static on desktop
- Horizontal scroll wrappers on data tables
- Fluid modal widths / single-column forms on small screens
- Dashboard cards reflow: 3 columns → 2 → 1
- Sites page adapts for narrow screens
Turning VyManager from a UI into a platform.
- REST API for VyManager resources
- OpenAPI spec for client generation
- API key authentication
- Webhook system
Final testing, polish, and the first tagged stable release.
- Comprehensive testing across VyOS 1.4 and 1.5
- Performance optimization
- Migration path documentation
- Release notes and changelog
